Ok, so it's not exactly surprising is it? I probably should find better things to do with my time.


Honestly, I'm completely clueless over things to do right now that aren't avoiding reality... Oh well, on with the show.

1x07 - The Long Game

• Nice work Doctor, help Rose prove Adam is an idiot. And then look smug and proud when she sounds smart.
• Rose stands there smiling and looking impressed. Adam collapses. Boys... And the Doctor looks slightly too happy about that.
• What is a kronk burger anyway?
• Aww, all brave and smily for Rose and then trying to find the problem.
• Simon Pegg looking slighly odd(er).
• Yes Adam, it is in the past, but do you think Rose would have offered the phone if it didn't work?
• Well, they do say the brain is more powerful than any computer. And Adam looks exceedingly interested
• The Doctor and Rose, always looking excited when trouble is afoot!
• Adam's smartest statement, Rose would rather be with the Doctor and it'd take a better man to come between them.
• Straight away you know Adam is up to know good, look how happy he is that Rose has given him the key...
• Ahh Suki, curiosity kills the cat and Simon Pegg's little wave is awesome.
• The Editor is kind of fun. A typical over-the-top villain. Like something from Bond.
• Gah, some people are just scheming bastards. Yep, talking about Adam.
• The Doctor doesn't like idiots much. (This could explains why he oftens seems to hate himself :P).
• Not hard to sell something to Adam if it'll help him get what he wants.
• Cathica, at this stage, would never survive a day with the Doctor and Rose, too scared to do anything wrong (or ask questions) which is what they like to do as much as possible.
• Yep, they're no one. In a manner of speaking, except they're going to cause you some serious problems.
• Aww, adorable scene in the elevator, just the Doctor and Rose, holding hands in a confined space.
• Wouldn't say no to the vomit-o-matic. Handing for those nights of drinking ;)
• One day the Doctor will realise telling Rose to do something just doesn't work.
• The Editor is having way too much fun being slightly evil.
• Snot monster. Well, maybe liver monster?
• Cathica does something, shows the influence the Doctor and Rose can have even in a short time.
• Funny thing, philosophical discussion is not this Doctor's strong point.
• And this is why some people shouldn't be allowed to travel with the Doctor. Bloody Adam. The thing is, you can't entirely blame Rose for giving him the key, she tends to think the best of people even if they don't deserve it. And someone who looked miserable, even if she didn't like them much, she'd want to help.
• Go Cathica, see thinking for yourself is good.
• And Doctor, it is possible to leave without making some smart arse comment. Then again for you, maybe not.
• Sheesh, Adam even sounds like a smarmy git when he's trying to get out of being responsible for something. Though you have got to wonder about how self absorbed a character would have to to be to think the Doctor would want to take him anywhere after that stunt. Mess with all of human history? Yeah... No.
• Hehe, go Doctor, mess with his head. Literally. Or you know, let Rose do it! :D
• Slightly smug Rose when she's called the best. Can't blame her.

Final thoughts on The Long Game - So this is never going to be a favourite episode. But it has got its good points. While he may be playing a typical Bond-style villian, Simon Pegg has a lot of fun with it. Makes for an amusing bad guy. Kind of think he was the best character in the episode (outside of the Doctor and Rose). I like that you get to see the short term influence of the Doctor on people's ideas and beliefs, just getting them to ask questions for example. On the other hand, Adam is a reminder of all the things that are wrong with poeple, as the Doctor says, he only wanted to help himself. And he's a smarmy git. I wonder if there's anyone out there who likes Adam? Anyway, it's definitely one of the low points of S1.

1x08 - Father's Day

• Rose wants to see her dad, can't say I blame her. Never lost a parent but can't imagine it's an easy thing, growing up without.
• Asks the Doctor to take her to the place her dad dies, and he thinks that's going to end well?
• If it's a bad idea, why did you do it? Daft alien.
• Who wouldn't try to save someone from getting hit by a car? That's the thing really. But seriously, the Doctor's face.
• Yes Doctor, you understand time and how it works. How could Rose possibly know? Explanations are sometimes needed for the 'stupid apes'.
• Rose knows just what to say to hurt the Doctor. That's the thing though, can always hurt those we care about the most.
• Rose's reaction to Pete saying she's pretty is bloody hilarious. Mind you, can't blame her.
• Now that's a supportive father there, trying to encourage his son not to marry...
• Uh oh, the TARDIS is no longer bigger on the inside.
• AHHH, the episode is RickRolling me! Now that's just worrying. But on a serious note, that moment when you discover your parent (mum or dad) isn't every thing you thought or had been told they were. I think it hits Rose harder because of the image that had been built up over her entire life.
• And then her parents start arguing. It's rather heartbreaking watching Rose try not to cry as they fight. Jackie tells her all these wonderful stories, which isn't surprising given the reality, I doubt she expected Rose would ever find out the truth.
• Standing and screaming is not your best move Rose.
• Hehe, gotta love Jackie telling the Doctor off. She's practicing for the the future. And the Doctor's face when she does what she's told, he looks so gleeful!
• Pete is an interesting character, smarter than you realise at first. Figuring out who Rose is. It's a wonderful moment.
• For all his apparent distaste over the 'domestic' this is when you first really see that the Doctor actually wouldn't mind the opportunity to have a 'normal' life.
• Aww, father/daughter bonding moment.... And a dad's typical disapproval of his little girl's boyfriend. Though, he's not far off with the too old comment :P
• "God help his poor girlfriend, if he ever gets one" Nice comment Jackie. Though, given Mickey's behaviour so far, she's not far off with the clinging on for dear life...
• Doctor, talking to a baby is not going to help. Also, you might want to consider you probably should have said no. Yelling at Rose, also not helping. Nor entirely fair. A human from the 21st century is not likely to know the rules of time.
• And from anger to sadness. The Doctor's sadness in admitting that he can't make up for an entire lost race.
• "If I'd realised..." Again, there's that fact staring you in the face. Rose didn't know. The apology and hug are sweet though.
• Rose isn't entirely lying, the stories of her dad would have kept her company and always been something she could rely on.
• Yep, Pete's smart enough to know he was meant to be dead. That can't be a comfortable realisation.
• Wonder what being digested by a reaper is like? Can't imagine it's pleasant :P
• The moment Rose says "My Daddy" kills me, it's rather heartbreaking as she realises what he's about to do for her.
• Only family moment the Tyler's get with Rose old enough to understand it.
• Rose and the Doctor walking hand in hand back to the TARDIS. Always a sweet moment.

Final thoughts on Father's Day - I actually love this episode. It's heartbreaking in so many ways, but it's gorgeous. As part of a close family and I'm ver close to my Dad, I can't imagine what it would be like to grow up without him. I think there's very few people out there who could say, honestly, that if they were given the opportunity to go back and save a parent/sibling/child etc that they wouldn't take it. That fact seems to be something the Doctor fails to understand. For all his genius, in this episode he is clueless. Rose is being Rose. She saved the Doctor, wanted to save Cassandra, a Dalek... Of course she's going to try and save her dad.
I admit the Doctor's behaviour in this episode often bothers me. He gets angry at Rose more than once, for doing something she didn't know was wrong. Something he should have known she would do and explained why she couldn't. I have wondered if perhaps the anger is partially self directed?

1x09 - The Empty Child

• Totally safe vs reasonably safe... Not much difference. Course not.
• Cows are the only species that produce milk. In the universe? There's like 4 different types just on Earth.
• Scan for alien tech. That would be the easy way of doing things. Would also ruin half the fun for the Doctor I imagine.
• Small child looking for it's mummy on a roof... Yep, Rose would want to check it's ok?
• Doctor = Genius... But completely unobservant. And that's why he needs a companion. To point out what's staring him in the face.
• "What am I s'posed to do with a ringing phone?" Sometimes you've got to wonder about the Doctor...
• Hello Cap'n Jack. Now, Rose might have a nice arse, but you probably don't need to zoom in on it.
• Admittedly, one way to charm a person. Stop 'em from falling to the ground in the middle of an air raid.
• Sneaky!Doctor is amusing. And he's rather wonderful with the kids. Plus, the admiration he has for Nancy's arrangement is very Doctor-ish. It's the kind of thing you could see him doing.
• Obviously a specific blonde in a Union Jack, the one you happen to be rather interested in. And you might have a craving, but it's still specific.
• Sometimes the Doctor should listen to others.
• Jack and Rose, both of them are a bit hopeless, saying hello 4 times, not really needed. Also, don't mess with the psychic paper. Somehow I think Jack's should just say 'I'm open'.
• Invisible space parked beside Big Ben, drinks on top and fixing her hands, gotta admit, as first meetings go, that'd be right up there. Poor Jack, the Doctor beat him to it.
• Nice slightly offended look the Doctor sprouts when Nancy implies his nose and ears might be a little large ;)
• Ok, that annoys me. The way Rose behaves when dancing with Jack, that's not really her. It's like a bad version of the old fainting female. Given all she's seen and done, unless drinking has a really strong affect on her, she isn't going to get that overwhelmed (might continue that train of thought later).
• The discussion between the Doctor and Nancy is a good touch though. The Doctor would recognise loss given how much he's experienced.
• Doctor meet Doctor. Dr Constantine is rather an interesting man. Poor guy, not having time to die. Would be hard.
• The first time you get a hint about the Doctor having had a family before, it's interesting, the little hints.
• Yep, good on ya Rose, call him Spock, does kind of suit him. OK and the comment about seeing an air raid by barrage balloon is pretty good.
• Get the impression Jack doesn't want to be responsible for what's happened? Can't blame him really, but he's certainly not happy. Of course, I think that might have something to do with having to admit he's a conman.
• Rose and the Doctor's face as Jack comments on the clothes are pretty amusing, especially at the U-boat captain remark.

1x09 - The Doctor Dances

• "Go to your room." I don't know, there could be worse last words. Mind you, not sure that would work very often.
• Jack is not exactly making himself popular with the Doctor at all. I don't think conman is a profession the Doctor admires much.
• Ah, the beginning of the banana jokes. Because unless I missed it (and that's possible) they're not mentioned before this episode. With the banana grove where a weapons factory once stood. That's very Doctor-y though.
• Got to give Nancy credit for standing up for herself, using the knowledge she had to her advantage.
• "Funny little human brains, how'd you get around in those things." I think the best part of that is Rose's comment about what happens when he cuts himself shaving.
• Kind of wonder when the Doctor managed to switch the blaster for the banana, but it's rather amusing.
• Proof that Rose is actually smart. And isn't too busy getting involved in a pissing contest to stop trying to find a solution. Boys and their toys...
• Um, Doctor, I don't think Rose doesn't find you attractive, it's just... Well, you're not exactly the type to make it easy for her. And you do seem to spend a fair amount of time insulting your own looks.
• Ok, Rose has a point, saving your life is a good way for a bloke to make an impression.
• Hmmph, every guy says they've got the moves, I'd want proof too. Rose knows how to make the Doctor move.
• "Captain envy." Well, not wrong. Poor Doctor, he normally has the flashest toys and now he has competition.
• Just sayin'.
• Still wonder what would have happened if Jack hadn't interrupted ;)
• But I'm with Jack and Rose, pretty sure that wasn't talking or dancing... Flirting at the very least.
• 51st century - humans go out and dance with the rest of the universe. Actually, that sounds kind of fun.
• Good for Nancy, wanting to know the truth. Wonder if it would help during the Blitz, knowing that the war will end, without your country being destroyed.
• An army of hysterical 4 year olds. Now that is actually scary. These ones are actually less terrifying than normal hysterical 4 year olds. At least all they want is their mummy.
• Jack, not happy about it, but off to stop the bomb.
• The Doctor wanting a day where everyone lives makes sense. Since he's picked up Rose, he hasn't had one and you get the impression it's been a long time.
• Good old Jack, riding the bomb of course, likes the power between his legs I'm guessing.
• I'm not sure those are the moves Rose was thinking of Doctor, but it's a start.
• Umm, how exactly would someone lose a leg? (Well, unless it's like my Pa's and fake, though I'm fairly sure he never lost the fake one).
• Rose has a point, the Doctor likes to argue with history.
• Ok, so it's sort of sad of Rose to ruin the Doctor's happy moment, but she had to ask about Jack.
• Jack needs to be bigger on the inside? I wonder if that intentionally sounds dirty or if that's just me?
• By the way Doctor, suddenly remembering how to dance when Rose is about to dance with Jack, so very not subtle.

Final thoughts on The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances - Overall, I don't hate these episodes. Jack is a great character and has a lot of potential to be explored. The dynamics of the relationship between the Doctor and Rose are always fascinating to watch here. The story is pretty good to, the idea of a con running through time is clever. And ok, so the conversation about dancing is rather amusing...
BUT - What the hell did Moffat do to Rose? She may be susceptible to flirting but she doesn't act like a breathless airhead around a guy, no matter how impressive his toys or how much he flirts. It's kind of like it was decided for this episode Rose would act like she doesn't have more than a couple of brain cells to rub together.
Anyway, as I was saying, the episodes aren't bad, there's some fun moments and the story isn't bad. There just happens to be a couple of things that bug me.

I thought about avoiding commenting Moffat and his urge to make pretty much every woman he writes a bloody mother, then decided it's my journal so. It's not that being a mother is bad, but somehow he seems to like reducing most woman to that. Need to save the world/universe? Find someone's mother. Need to ensure a woman is happy with non-existance in a computer? Make her a mother. Jack crashing a space ship into London aside, seems like if Jamie's mother had been around the whole mess could have been avoided. Seriously, the day was saved by Nancy acknowledging she was the mother. And now I'm wondering if Moffat has some mother issues...
Yes, I have issues, sometimes they get mentioned. Sorry...

Rightio... I feel there needs to be a warning, there's 4 episodes and much rambling. It was a long day ok.
