Ok, so the cake is in the oven, I've washed up the mess, swept the floor in the kitchen and cleaned the ferret's food and water bowls up. So...
1x06 - Dalek
Honestly though, I feel the most important thing to happen in this episode is when Rose stands between the Dalek and the Doctor and doesn't flinch, but stands her ground and makes the Doctor take a look at himself. It really is the moment of a huge shift in the way he looks at things. He starts to see things from Rose's view, starts using her a guide in his behaviour. He's angry and struggling after the Time War, but Rose is showing him it doesn't have to be the way he defines himself or his behaviour.
And ok, that was a hell of a lot to say about a single episode. Whoops :D
Maybe a pretty picture will help? The hug I wish was in the episode seems like an appropriate choice.

1x06 - Dalek
- Hmm, 2012... HEAD TO UTAH, we can catch Nine!!
- Friend, enemy? Is there much difference when it comes to the Doctor?
- Yes Doctor, smile at all the men with guns. That makes perfect sense.
- Bad Wolf One descending. I love these subtle hints for the series arc. Subtle but consistent.
- Van Statten is a dick, and his jokes are worse than the Doctors (which is seriously saying something). "Intrud-a window" indeed.
- Dangerous, no, just silly! And seriously, those hands. I wonder if the director had a little bit of a thing for hands?
- The Doctor might be a bit of a collector himself, but what he collects is a little fiestier than you think. Rose should've smacked Van Statten.
- Smell the Testosterone, I'm surprised they're not choking on it.
- I kind of like Goddard, she has this smug little smile on her face as the Doctor states the obvious, sets people alight if they touch it. Don't touch it.
- The first time you truly see the Doctor scared of an alien. Not what could happen to Rose for example, but actually scared of the alien itself. Makes it very impressive.
- The Dalek actually manages to look slightly disappointed when it realises its weapon isn't working, for some reason it amuses me.
- "Great space dustbin" (Side note, I now want a Dalek bin) This moment when the Doctor is questioning the Dalek's use if it can't kill is rather interesting, mostly because you can see the pain on his face as he asks "What's the point of you?"
- How pained the Doctor looks at the moment the Dalek asks "You destroyed us?" is just, you can see him breaking a bit there. He knows he destroyed them, but this is the first time he's faced another survivor.
- Got to give the Dalek credit, it really knows how to strike the Doctor where it hurts, first mention the Time Lords, reminding the Doctor they're all gone and then tell him they're the same. His face...
- He tries to kill something, no offering a chance, no pity, nothing. Says a lot about a guy who's always offered the bad guys a chance.
- Ahh Adam, trying to impress Rose by talking about aliens... And Rose humouring him, she's nicer than I would be. Smug little git. Born clever, with his head up his arse.
- Rose and the Doctor, just friends... Ah huh, sure they are.
- Oh Van Statten, as much as a shirtless Doctor isn't bad, chaining him up isn't a good idea. Arse. Also, torturing him for the sake of torturing him. Not classy.
- Rose, sympathy for the Dalek. Can't blame her, she doesn't know what it is. "Met a human who wasn't afraid." It seems impressed. The crush begins ;)
- Yes, it's going to sucker you to death.
- You know, I'm sure I'm not the only person who thought that if the Dalek absorbed the entire internet, it now has a very disturbing amount of knowledge about human sexuality. Yes, I'm saying it's now absorbed a lot of porn.
- The humour of the stairs, yes a race that can destroy millions, travel through space etc... And they couldn't deal with stairs. Sometimes I wonder.
- Yes, a single tin robot that has already wiped out large numbers of soldiers.
- Rose isn't wrong about it looking at her, or knowing her. It's a fascinating dynamic between the Dalek and Rose.
- Being told he'd make a good Dalek looks like it hits the Doctor
- Just sayin', but sad!Nine is the worst, when he realises Rose didn't make it. The pain.
- Rose comforting the Doctor, making him feel better when she's the one who's about to die. Van Statten, you arse.
- The Dalek with emotions, good job Rose. Mess with a looooooong history of monsters who happily kill and make it feel scared and miserable. That is talent.
- "What use are emotions if you will not save the woman you love?" Now that's the perfect way to smack the (emotionally hopeless) Doctor in the head with a brick. Poor guy, that's one way to realise what's happening.
- Only Rose would think to ask a Dalek what it might want. And the answer is freedom. And sunlight (maybe a tan?).
- Standing between an armed Doctor and a Dalek takes a hell of a lot of courage if you ask me.
- "What the hell are you changin' into?" The question that makes the Doctor stop and look at himself. He even manages to feel sorry for a Dalek.
- Poor Rose, she feels guilt over ordering a Dalek who wants to die to do so.
- Goddard, seriously brilliant. "Some place beginning with S".
- "Rose, he's a bit pretty" "I 'adn't noticed" That's cause she's a little bit busy looking at you, Doctor. And by the way, your jealousy is starting to show.

Date: 5 July 2012 01:26 pm (UTC)The Doctor squeezes Rose so hard, she bounces off of him a bit in the first few seconds of that hug.
What is it with Doctor Who and Utah. The Dalek, Lake Silencio... important things in America happen in Utah?

Though, now I'm wondering about Utah. Maybe the Dalek appeared there because Lake Silencio was there... Given the time line would suggest that the Lake happened first. Well, unless you take into account the fact that particular universe was rewritten like 4 times... Ok, that's it. I'm stopping.
