Oh yes, I continue my rewatch. Well, not surprising really. It's morning and raining. And cold. So settling in on the couch with a blanket, the Doctor and Rose seems like a good way to go...

1x03 - The Unquiet Dead
  • Never tell the Doctor something isn't going to work, he seems to get offended.
  • There's something worrying about the line "The stiffs are getting lively" that is seriously bloody amusing. Of course, I might be a little dirty minded soooooo.
  • It definitely says something that on their second 'date' the Doctor and Rose are already rolling around on the floor laughing when they land.
  • They're both so damn smitten, Rose maybe slightly more by the whole idea of travel at this stage, but the Doctor, he's completely lost.
  • Nice directions Doctor, where was the wardrobe again?
  • Gwyneth, poor thing. Can't help but feel a bit sorry for her really.
  • 'Considering' Yep, nice try convering it up Doctor. You might as well have saved yourself some time and said 'Blimey, you're hot and I'm interested'. Oh and changing the jumper... Yep, that helps.
  • And so begins the Doctor's habit of never landing in the right time, or place. He deserves it when people pick on his driving.
  • Just visiting a place, boring. Gotta hear someone scream for it to be 'Fantastic'.
  • Yes Doctor, it's the jumper that's the problem.
  • Rose, in trouble. But you've got to admit, at least it's because she was trying to help someone.
  • Flattery will get you everywhere but the Doctor gushing over Dickens is such a great thing to see. It reminds you the Doctor can get excited over the little things too.
  • First angry!Doctor who needs to rescue Rose, then smitten!Doctor watching Rose give the undertaker a verbal hiding. He's so adorable.
  • The conversation between Dickens and the Doctor is interesting I think. You see the Doctor trying to help someone open their eyes, but without pushing the,
  • I like that Rose doesn't really quite understand the difference between her time and Gwyneth's but between them they manage to connect and bond. It's sweet and very much something seems to like doing.
  • Does anyone else wonder if the Gelth knew who the Doctor was and his part in the Time War? Since saying it's the fault of the Time War is pretty much a guarantee that the Doctor will want to do something.
  • I absolutely adore the way Rose fights and stands up to the Doctor, it's one of those things that he really needs at this stage. Even if you haven't seen the following episodes it's already becoming obvious.
  • Dickens coming back while the Doctor and Rose are trapped shows that the Doctor can have an influence on even someone almost as stubbrn as he is.
  • I'm so glad I met you = I think I might be falling in love with you.
  • Gwyneth is so very strong, dead or not. Think she definitely makes an impression on Rose and the Doctor.
  • Rose kisses Dickens on the cheek, the Doctor turns around, with a look that says 'What'd I miss? Did she just kiss him? Why can't I have one?'.
  • And seriously, I always forget the "Down boy" line to Dickens. Though, you ask me, the Doctor looks kind of smug.
Final thoughts on The Unquiet Dead - I admit, maybe I'm childish, but I still love the humour of them running into Charles Dickens, at Christmas with ghosts (well, ghost-like aliens). Why remake the Christmas Carol again, *cough* Moffat), when you can have much more fun running into Dickens? Honestly though, this episodes shows a bit more about Rose. Given the shock she faced in the previous one, you couldn't always get a sense of her. Here though, you start to see that she's not afraid to stand up to the Doctor. You see her getting annoyed at him in the previous episode, but this is the one where you see her standing up for what she believes is right, no matter what the Doctor says. And while he doesn't listen I think it's the start of the Doctor changing the way he views the world.
On another note, seriously, 3rd episode in and it has some bloody shippy moments. Just sayin'.

I was going to watch more than one episode, but then apparently 3 hours or so in every 24 is not enough sleep to allow coherency. I shall continue later I think.

I can't really be upset about Moffatt's re-do of A Christmas Carol. That's what got me hooked on Doctor Who in the first place! I had been randomly watching BBC America and saw the ad for the show and thought, "Oh, yeah. I kinda remember Doctor Who from ages past. And "A Chrsitmas Carol" is my favorite story of all time. I'll just set the DVR and see what it's like."

And an obsession was born.

I am still not convinced of the Doctor's smitten-ness, but that is another discussion for another time. :D

Great review, BTW!

Ok, that's a good reason to like Moffat's Christmas Carol. I don't mind it, kind of harmless fun, but you've got to admit, it's been redone many times.

Hehe, I think that's a discussion that should be put off indefinitely ;D

It has been done many times, and I wll probably watch every one of the next 100! :D

I agree. That's what fan fiction is for. Write your universe the way you see it! ;D

Well, that's a valid point too. There's a reason it's redone so many time. It's a brilliant story.

You sail your ship and I'll sail mine? :D

I love that they fought like a couple already and then made up. "Get used to it or go home!" and then his tone is so gentle after Rose looks like a kicked puppy.

Rose kisses Dickens on the cheek, the Doctor turns around, with a look that says 'What'd I miss? Did she just kiss him? Why can't I have one?'.
His Doctor senses were tingling. XD

They do that a lot, fight and then make up in a ridiculously short space of time. Though the mental picture of Rose as a kicked puppy is making me giggle a bit.

'Doctor senses' Hehe! :D

Never tell the Doctor something isn't going to work, he seems to get offended.

That's not just the Doctor, that's any male anywhere. My dad, my friend, any of the guys from the fraternity next door.... saying those words pretty much guarantees they'll find a way to do it!

Actually you're right, works on any guy.... Family, friends, random strangers. Good way to trick them into doing things ;)
Still, the look of offense on the Doctor's face is rather amusing.

He is giving her major moon eyes the whole episode. 'Considering' Yep, nice try convering it up Doctor. You might as well have saved yourself some time and said 'Blimey, you're hot and I'm interested'. Oh and changing the jumper... Yep, that helps. If only I could have helped him change his jumper...

First angry!Doctor who needs to rescue Rose, then smitten!Doctor watching Rose give the undertaker a verbal hiding. He's so adorable. I love how the Doctor kicks down the door to save Rose...no time to knock when his Rose is in danger! Seriously smitten giggles going on in the background Doctor.

I absolutely adore the way Rose fights and stands up to the Doctor, it's one of those things that he really needs at this stage. Even if you haven't seen the following episodes it's already becoming obvious. Good on Rose for standing up to the force that is the Doctor. At least she tried.

I'm so glad I met you = I think I might be falling in love with you. This!

And seriously, I always forget the "Down boy" line to Dickens. Though, you ask me, the Doctor looks kind of smug. You can tell the Doctor is all proud that Charlie Boy is jealous of him where Rose is concerned.

I love your commentary by the way!

If only I could have helped him change his jumper...
Well, I think we'd all like to help him change his jumper... Prferably into his birthday suit ;)

I love how the Doctor kicks down the door to save Rose...no time to knock when his Rose is in danger!
Mind you, do you think the Doctor would knock even if Rose wasn't in danger? And his smitten giggling... It's so damn adorable!

Good on Rose for standing up to the force that is the Doctor. At least she tried.
She may not succeed yet, but that she keeps trying is definitely important.

You can tell the Doctor is all proud that Charlie Boy is jealous of him where Rose is concerned.
Oh definitely, he's all smug about it. He's good a smug.

And thanks :D
