Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows. Comment, and I'll give you a letter!

Rose Tyler
So I could go into some very very long thing about why I love Rose, but if you've spent any time near here, you can probably figure out why. Rose is one of the characters you can relate to. She's pretty normal, hasn't seen much and stuck in a rut with little chance of anything more. But when the opportunity arises she takes it (ok, so she has to be asked twice, still). She's caring, compassionate but still human. She'll be a bit selfish, but she just wants to help and when it matters most she's incredibly selfless.

Rikku
Ok, so she's a character from a game. But if you've ever played Final Fantasy X and X-2, you'll realise that some games have better plots than some movies. Certainly better characters. Rikku is the cousin of main character Yuna. Rikku knows she's not the smartest, the strongest or the most important. But what she does know is family and friends are the most important thing and she'll fight with everything she has to protect and help them. On another note, Rikku is adorable. She is always trying to cheer people up and doesn't let anything get her down.

River Tam
She might be completely insane, but she's still an amazing character. She is a complete contradiction, she's strong physically but emotionally, she doesn't have that. River is beyond intelligent but has absolutely no idea how to live in the real world. She can look after herself but she is dependent on Simon. Personally, I will always love River for trying to fix the bible and telling Jayne she can kill him with her brain. But honestly, she's a unique character in so many ways, but so very much belonging to Whedon.

Rumplestiltskin
Forget Emma, forget Snow, Charming, Henry, even Regina. For me the most fascinating character on Once Upon a Time has got to be Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. Not entirely sure whether he's good or evil. He seems to be a mixture. In some ways more real than most of his fairy tale world counterparts. He will help people but always for a price, that often isn't revealed until much later. He seems to have a distinctly tragic story as well as a nasty side. Seriously, I think a large part of my interest in this show stems from wanting to know what Rumplestiltskin is up to.

River Song
Because no list is complete without one character you intensely dislike. Oh look. Ok, I freely admit that I adore the Doctor/Rose. But that's not actually why I really dislike River. It's because she's a terrible character. (Actually, less a character and more a storytelling tool). Look, I can't say I actually liked her in s4 but I went into s5and s6 prepared to give her a chance. But every time she showed up in an episode I just disliked her more and more. Her character is incredibly smug, contradictory and aggravating. The fact that people say she is a strong female character annoys me. All she does is shoot things (gun =/= strong) and act like a more smug version of the Doctor without any of the charm and knowledge to back it up. And I'm not even touching the relationship between the Doctor and River except to say one thing. Obsession =/= love.
