Specifically, lately I've been watching The Sarah Jane Adventures. Yes, I'm still a child. Or possibly I just refuse to grow up.

But I just watched Death of the Doctor. It's really quite interesting watching this. Or more specifically, as I heard from [livejournal.com profile] kilodalton seeing the difference between Eleven as written through S5/6 and as written by RTD is quite amazing. Seriously, I can see how people can appreciate Matt Smith, he gets more depth in this story than he did in most of the last 2 seasons of Doctor Who. When you watch him in this you can see the potential he has to play the Doctor with actual emotional depth. It's a shame he's been stuck with only a couple of writers who were willing to actually deal with character development.

So all I really have to say to that is...

My library had several seasons of SJA and I thought they were pretty good. I haven't gotten to Death of the Doctor yet!

It's quite enjoyable for a kids show I find. Distinctly childish but still fun. I find Eleven quite likeable in Death of the Doctor.

Now, what to watch...

I think refusing to grow up is a good thing and I highly recommend it XD

I've sporadically seen some SJA, because until recently I didn't have reliable ... um ... ~access~ to it. Now I just have to wait until I have more time to watch it! XD

Isn't it amazing how emotionally well-rounded Eleven is in Death of the Doctor? Gawd that scene with Jo on the rocks ; ;

I agree. I choose to live by the saying 'Growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional'.

I've had SJA for a while, I just finally over the past month or so got around to watching it.

Exactly what I mean Eleven actually has 'emotions'. That scene though, was seriously one of the best in the show and certainly one of the best looks at Eleven's depth.

It would be interesting to see RTD's take on Eleven in an actual DW episode.

nothing wrong with SJA, it's very well written for a kids show, and Liz is just awesome anyway :)

But yes, I totally agree, and have said so myself in the past, that the problem with Eleven, (for em at least) is not MS, but the crappy writing.

I saw Death Of The Doctor a while ago, as did hubby, and we both immediately commented on the difference between RTD's Eleven and the one we've been stuck with through S5-6, and how much better RTD's version was

Exactly, well written kids shows are still perfectly acceptable :)

I seen a few people say that and I completely agree. It's not Matt Smith that makes Eleven problematic, but the writing. It's sort of sad how much difference there is between Eleven on DW and SJA.
