Actually, I have no real idea why I have LJ. But then when I'm bored I do strange things. And nope, don't actually expect anyone to read this, but it's now around 4am and I'm a little bored and feeling random as I can't sleep. Again.

One thing to know now, I live by the quote 'growing old is compulsory, growing up is voluntary'. I may be old enough to know better, but that's not going to stop me.

So why do I have this LJ account? Honestly, a new obsession for me that led to deciding to actually create an account... What obsession, well...

Late last year my dear friend knew I was looking for something new to watch to pass time before I moved and started uni again. So, he gave me the first two series of Torchwood. I then went and found the 3rd. At which point I looked into the storyline because a few things didn't make complete sense, only to discover the show was a spin-off. So, being the curious and at the time rather bored individual, I wandered off and found the new Doctor Who series, and picking up from episode one watched all the way through to the end of series 5. And did so in a fairly short space of time. I fell in love with the Doctor and especially the Doctor and Rose.

So what does that have to do with LJ? Well, I was reading fics about the 'ship and discovered some great LJ communities out there for Doctor Who and specifically for the Doctor and Rose. So here I am, with a LJ account, just so I can join in some of the discussions. Who knows, maybe one day I'll write a fic, but it seems a little unlikely. That requires concetration and ome vague originality, which I feel I tend to lack these days.

Things I obsess over, or at the very least enjoy immensly (I can't say much in real life cause it's rather dull these days) include:
TV - Doctor Who, Torchwood, pretty much anything by Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Dollhouse), Fringe, Castle, Bones, True Blood, Dark Angel, Futurama, Dexter, Black Books, Sanctuary, Daria, Red Dwarf, Pushing Daisies... Erm, stopping there.
Movies - Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Disney movies (too many to name favourites), original Star Wars, Willow, 300, V for Vendetta, The Nightmare before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean. Ok, cutting that off too, be here forever otherwise.
Books - Terry Pratchett (Discworld), Lord of the Rings, Robin Hobb, Jennifer Fallon, Sara Douglass, Anne Bishop, Harry Potter, and I'm forgetting the names of authors right now, that'll have to do.

Anything else to know.... I'm a uni student, studying teaching (in theory anyway). I live with a friend who is more like a brother. I have a pet dog, but unfortunately for me, he lives with my parents right now. That'll do.

If you didn't want anyone to read your LJ entries, you probably shouldn't have participated in a friending meme :)

Anyway, pretty similar story here... I wanted to get involved in all the great Doctor/Rose discussions, so I created a fandom LJ. Thought I'd write a bunch of fic, but so far all I've got is one that I'm not particularly proud of (and with classes, lab work, and job interviews all coming at me at once, I don't see that changing any time soon).

I'm also a big fan of DW (obviously), Torchwood, Fringe, and Castle...Bones and I aren't speaking to each other, but I guess if I care enough about a show to get worked up over it, then I can be called a fan. I tend not to rewatch movies much, but I also really enjoyed Labyrinth, Lord of the Rings, V for Vendetta, and Pirates.

Bookwise we share genre more than specific authors, but I have a healthy respect for LotR, plus Jennifer Fallon is a borderline guilty pleasure of mine. (Also, Harry Potter pretty much defined my life ages 10-17, but that almost goes without saying for my generation.) Have you ever read George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire or Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn books? Those are probably my favorite fantasy novels. I'd also recommend Juliet Marillier's Sevenwaters trilogy.

Ok, I've clearly rambled on way too long here... welcome to LJ!

Oh it's not that I mind anyone reading the entries, just can't say I expect anyone too. Heh, all good eh.

Hey, 1 fic is more than I have so...

Anyway, it's always the TV shows you like that manage to upset you, evil things.

As for authors, I tend to have a mental block as to names half the time. But I haven't read George R.R. Martin's sweries yet. It is on my list, actually it's the top of my list, the problem is I have to wait til I have enough money for buying them. And I've read Marillier's Sevenwaters trilogy, and her Wolfskin/Foxmask set, enjoy her writing when I'm in the right mood.

Thanks for the welcome :)

And so far I'm liking it here, feel less insane around other people who share the obsession ;P

Isn't that the truth...

My 7 (CDTG) year old and 5 (The Littlest Who) year old daughters both love Doctor Who, and my husband (Mr. Who) is learning to like it (I think he's trying ot figure out why I'm so obsessed), but other than that. I have no one in real life who gets it. I've tried to convince my IRL best friend, but she is seriously confused by my PURE obsession. LOL. She just hasn't watched enough Tennant, I'm convinced.

My housemate, the one responsible for me even watching it in the first place and I can't get him to watch it *Sigh*. And none of my friends or family will watch it. So there's no one in real life to obsess with. Thankfully we have the internet, my saviour. I also recently discovered a couple of Facebook pages which help too.

By the way, love the fact you're getting the children while they're young, best way to do it :)

And one person there pointed out I'm not obsessed, I'm focused. I prefer obsessed, but the focused defense is handy against those who don't understand.

And yes, Tennant is a good convincing tool, Eccleston works for some too, I've noticed.

I definitely call Doctor/Rose my obsession more than just Doctor Who but I love it all. Always happy to see more people love the show.

Can I ask what part of Australia you are in? I'm in Brisbane.

Oh I understand that, I think if it wasn't for the Doctor/Rose, my obsession probably wouldn't have been so bad :)

And I'm in Port Stephens. Lived here a bit less than a year.
