I've always enjoyed "The Long Game," but now you mention it, I've never considered it a favorite.
RE: Milk
DOCTOR: Do you know how long you can knock around space without happening to bump into Earth? ROSE: Five days? Or is that just when we're out of milk? DOCTOR: Of all the species in all the Universe and it has to come out of a cow.
I always assumed his line at the end was meant to be scathing as if it was Rose who insisted on cow's milk, not as though cows were the only species who produce milk.
I think The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances are really Moffat at his best. Dude's good at these single/two-part episodes. But it is really hard to look back at these after seeing his other work and not find those same feminist critiques that apply to, well... all of his work. A mother's love for her child is a powerful thing. It's also not a universal feeling among all mothers which makes the trope a bit hackneyed, especially where Moffat is concerned.
