Yeah, often when a show has this kind of character they throw her into that role of the outsider, not just in their school/social environment but in their family as well. It worked so well having her a in the close knit family, especially the close relationship she had with her father.

I think that was definitely a huge part of what made the story so moving. And yep, the parallels between the characters and teh cases was brilliantly done.
